This week we continue the 5 Questions series with another notable BSA employee who mans not one director position, but two! Dustin Farris is the director of the National Eagle Scout Association and the Scouting Alumni Association.

Check out his 5 Questions below and find out what he believes is the best way to stay connected to the BSA.

5Q-Dustin-Farris

What’s most exciting about taking on the your role of director of the National Eagle Scout Association?

Dustin: I have been an Eagle Scout since I was 15 years old and as you know “Once an Eagle, Always an Eagle.” Scouting has done and continues to do so much for me. When I think of being an Eagle Scout I think of Leadership and what it means to be a Leader. I am blessed to serve with an amazing NESA committee to help with connecting and reconnecting folks to their Eagle Scout experiences.

What’s your Scouting background?

Dustin: I am an Eagle Scout, Vigil Honor Member of the Order of the Arrow and Wood Badge trained. I have had the pleasure of serving as an OA Staff Adviser and Summer Camp Director for 3 different camp operations. Scouting has played a major role in my life as well as in my family.

What about your role with the Scouting Alumni Association? How is the association significant to the BSA?

Dustin: The SAA is the best way to stay connected to what’s happening at the BSA. Membership includes all ages, both boys and girls. As the Director of the SAA I have the pleasure of working with an outstanding committee to help folks reconnect, rekindle and remember their scouting experiences. Whether it’s the smell of smoke from a crackling fire, hot days at a camp waterfront or the excitement of the next rank advancement we plan to be along for the ride. Don’t forget “Once a Scout, Always a Scout.”

What’s your favorite Scouting memory?

Dustin: Earning the Silver Moccasin award. This is a local Council award given to scouts that hike three specific 50 milers. Growing up in Idaho, I got to experience some of the most beautiful mountains. I looked forward each summer to spending time with my troop and back packing this vast wilderness.

And, most important, what’s your go-to campout food?

Dustin: SPAM! America’s favorite canned meat. I can’t eat the stuff on a day-to-day basis but out in the woods, nothing tastes better on a cracker or straight from the can.
