A Mom’s Take: 5 Reasons Your Son Will Love Day Camp and Should Try Scouting

As we enter the thick of summer with recruitment season right around the corner, many kids and families are experiencing a timeless Scouting activity – camping. For the BSA, nothing is more iconic than summer camp. It’s where friendships that last a lifetime are born and a commitment to Scouting is often solidified.

We could talk about how great summer camp is or why families should join Scouting, but we’d rather share stories from the people who experience it firsthand.

One Scouting mom, Janel, runs her own blog called A Mom’s Take. She recently shared her son’s first experience with day camp on her blog, where she explains how Scouting has positively affected her son in the short time he’s been involved with Cub Scouts.

“I’ve seen so much growth in my son in the mere 9 months he’s been involved in his Boy Scouts of America Wolf den,” Janel explains. “I see it forming in him early leadership skills, budding new interests, teaching him about a strong moral compass, and guiding a desire to serve and work hard.”

Janel also compiled a list of five reasons other boys (and their parents) will love day camp and Scouting. To read the full list, visit Janel’s blog.

Janel and her son’s experience with Scouting is just another way our movement is making a positive impact in young people’s lives. It’s stories like these that help potential Scouting parents understand the many benefits of BSA and inspire them to consider Scouting for their children.

After you head to A Mom’s Take to read about her son’s experience at day camp, share Janel’s post on your social media pages so more families can learn how experiencing Scouting’s adventures will engage their kids.

The Grand Canyon Council gave Janel and her son a Scouting experience worth blogging about- let us know below: how does your unit make sure new Scouts have an equally awesome time in the outdoors?
