Dave Hyink of the Charles L. Sommers Alumni Association presents Paul R. Christen with the special award.

Eagle Scout and final Region Ten chairman, Paul R. Christen was recently given an Honorary Life Membership award by the Charles L. Sommers Alumni Association for his contribution to BSA’s National High-Adventure Program.

The Summit Bechtel Reserve recently shared a story explaining why the long-time Scouter was given this special honor.

In the association’s Fall 2015 newsletter, Reflections, SAA member Dave Hyink recounts Christen’s efforts to incorporate the Charles L. Sommers Wilderness Canoe Base into the National High-Adventure Program.

As chairman for Region Ten, Christen, “significantly and steadfastly maintained that the Region Ten Canoe Base be incorporated into the National High-Adventure Program,” Hyink explains.

Additionally, the SAA stated that in recognition of this dedicated Scouter, the program’s fourth high-adventure base would be named the Paul R. Christen National High-Adventure Base.

Be sure to check out the Summit blog to learn more about this distinguished Scouter and his award.
