Connecting to the Outdoors through the BSA Fieldbook

Connecting to the Outdoors through the BSA Fieldbook

If there’s a way to put outdoor adventures into words, the 2014 BSA Fieldbook certainly ranks among the top guides on sharpening outdoor skills.

My first Fieldbook was big – more than 500 pages – so it took up a good bit of room in my backpack. But it was chock full of important lessons on exploring, experiencing new adventures, appreciating nature, and how to do all this safely. My Fieldbook was dog-eared and faded by the time I needed a new one – its condition revealing how often it came in handy.

This year, we’ve lightened up the 5th edition Fieldbook a bit. It’s down to 435 pages and still small enough to tuck into a backpack. And now, it’s also available as a digital version.

It’s the first new edition in more than a decade – the best all-around guide to outdoor adventures on the market today. The Fieldbook is not just for those in Scouting. The wealth of knowledge contained in its pages is useful for anyone who enjoys outdoor adventures.

We took the time to gather the know-how of world-class mountaineers, naturalists, adventurers and wilderness educators. We think BSA’s responsibility to the outdoors also extends to those outside of Scouting, and the new Fieldbook is written that way.

Millions of people tour our local, state and national parks, and hike and explore challenging peaks, forests, valleys and caves in other countries. An outdoor primer like the Fieldbook is one way we can extend our values of environmental stewardship, backcountry skills and passion for adventure with the rest of the world’s explorers.

Sometimes people just need a little extra knowledge to get them started on enjoying the outdoors. How do you promote outdoor adventures and inspire stewardship among those in your organizations?

Whether a Scout or not, we invite you to order our new Fieldbook now and put it get great use in the great outdoors. Adventure is calling.
