How a Cub Scout Event Showed This Mom What Scouting Is All About

If you’re not sure what to expect at your first Scouting event as a parent, prepare to be as excited as your son will be when you both discover what the Boy Scouts of America has to offer.

Emily, creator of the Busy Mommy blog, discovered her own Scouting enthusiasm when she and her youngest son attended the Mid-Iowa Council’s 2015 Cub Scout Fun Day at Camp Mitigwa. Although Emily was not entirely new to the world of Scouting, she wasn’t familiar with exactly what Scouts do, so she decided to find out in person.

She and her son arrived to the Cub Scout kick-off event and in no time, Emily started to see what Scouting is all about.

IMG_5731a“Scouts don’t just camp, build fires and go fishing, if that’s the picture you’ve had in your mind!” Emily shares in her blog. She witnessed firsthand how rank advancement promotes healthy development, and teaches young men valuable skills they can carry throughout their lives.

Attending the event showed the mom blogger that Scouting not only helps young men improve upon current skills, but also opens doors to new interests and talents. She explains the significance of the wide-range of activities offered through BSA.

According to Emily, some activities at the event were things that her sons already enjoyed, but the boys were also presented with fresh opportunities to explore passions they may never have discovered otherwise.

As Emily discovered during her visit to Camp Mitigwa, Scouting fosters each boy’s unique potential and is sure to deliver much excitement along the way. Be sure to read the full account of Emily’s introduction to Scouting on her blog, Busy Mommy.
