Explore Handbooks Through History

Join us this spring as we go back in time for a look at Boy Scout Handbooks through history!

Last week, we announced the official release of the Boy Scout Handbook’s 13th edition but now we’re rewinding  the clock to uncover handbooks of the past on BSA’s official Instagram.

Scouting Wire is throwing back to past editions of the handbook through each decade of BSA history and we’ll be featuring some awesome Scout relics along the way.

Not Your Average History Lesson

6663-CR2-0001_LHave you ever wondered what Scouts wore 100 years ago? Did you know Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts once had their very own official Converse sneakers? What vintage version of texting did Scouts use in the 1940s?

On a recent trip to the National Scouting Museum, the Scouting Wire team dusted off each edition of the handbook and the vintage Scout gear to go along with them.

We’ll be serving up our discoveries on Instagram so keep your eyes peeled for photos chock-full of retro uniforms, tools, and TONS of cool patches.

As we celebrate the release of the newest handbook with the #HandbookHacks videos, be sure to  head to Instagram for a look back at how far we’ve come.

As you discover these antique handbooks, remember that you can still find many of the same skills today in the handbook’s 13th edition! What handbook skill has come in handy for you the most? Tell us in the comments!
