Help Wounded Veterans and Their Families Experience the Summit Bechtel Reserve

This summer a group of tremendous individuals and their families will be enjoying kayaking, archery, fishing and zip line canopy tours at Scouting’s newest national High-Adventure base. Laughter will fill the air along with cheers for those who are enjoying the thrill of competition and quality family time together. If you have ever attended summer camp or participated in a weekend campout these might be scenes that live in your memory for Scouts. But now your support will help these dreams come alive for a special group of people and their families: veterans with disabilities.

In cooperation with Paralyzed Veterans of America, the Wounded Warrior Project and the West Virginia National Guard, the Boy Scouts of America is planning the first ever Veterans’ Appreciation Day. The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in West Virginia will host the event this July.

This inaugural event will host more than 1000 guests, as they’re treated to an exciting, rewarding, and unforgettable experience. Additionally Veterans’ Appreciation Day will reinforce the aims of the BSA (citizenship, character, fitness and leadership) and help foster understanding, mutual respect and the self-esteem for both veterans and Scouts alike.

The BSA is committed to making this an extraordinary experience for all who attend by ensuring necessary equipment individuals with unique needs rely upon is available at the Summit. We need your assistance to deliver these resources at no cost to the participants.

So join the mission to help bring veterans who have been wounded and their families to the inaugural Veterans’ Appreciation Day at the Summit Bechtel Family Scout Reserve this July.

How you can Support Wounded Veterans

Visit aplacetogive.scouting.org and click on the Support our Wounded Veterans giving link.

A gift of $600.00 will provide food, housing and all program expenses for a deserving veteran to visit the Summit. A gift of $1,000 will support a veteran and his family to participate in this mountaintop experience together.

Your support at any level will provide a once in a lifetime experience packed with kayaking, world class fishing and zip line tours for more than one thousand American heroes and the families who supported them as they protected all of us. Thank you for all that you do for Scouting and the veterans of America!
