How Scouting U Is Transforming Scouters Into All-Star Leaders

Pop quiz: what’s the best way Scouting volunteers and professionals can help deliver high-quality programs to youth and adult members? Hint: Scouting U has the answer.

At the BSA, we’re committed to providing leadership and development opportunities to our youth, but to do that we must build better leaders amongst ourselves! Scouting U seeks to enhance leadership impact on youth programs through enriching, effective and fun learning opportunities, while also fostering a continuous learning environment for leaders.

The Leadership Development team at Scouting U has been busy developing new tools and training to support your council in 2016 and we’ve got the lowdown on two unique courses available for you and your staff below.

Empowering Volunteer and Professional Leaders

The Leadership Development Series (replacing “People Management”) is designed to give you and your team members additional tools to meet the demands of the Scouting career.

The 2016 Leadership Development Series will include workshops on building effective teams, project management, successful delegation, and selecting talent. The series is presented at six locations: Dallas/Fort Worth, Phoenix, Washington D.C., Philmont, Florida Sea Base, and Provo, Utah. To register and learn more about these four workshops, watch this Leadership Development video and take a look at the series brochure.

ScoutingU will conduct the BETA course February 29 – March 4 at the Westlake Campus in Texas and there’s still room for additional participants. Please register by Thursday, January 28, 2016 to join.

How to Help Achieve Council Goals

Managing Performance (replacing “1st Time Staff Leader”) has gone through the BETA course and will be holding the first official course February 1-5. This course is designed for potential staff leaders, first time staff leaders, and experienced staff leaders. Managing Performance is presented at the Westlake Campus. Please review the attached Managing Performance Brochure. Discover more about the purpose and elements of this new training by watching this Managing Performance video and checking out the course brochure

Scouting volunteers and professionals won’t want to miss out on these new and improved training courses! Have questions? Please reach out to mark.nelson@scouting.org for additional information.
