How This Council’s Training Extravaganza Is Energizing Scouters

Just east of the Mississippi lies a council that hosts one of the largest University of Scouting events in the region – averaging over a thousand participants a year! Lewis & Clark Council’s annual extravaganza provides training for all levels of Scouting and it’s the highlight of the training year.

What Is University of Scouting?

Held 0n February 6, 2016, University of Scouting is the Lewis & Clark Council’s single-day training event designed to help Scouters improve their knowledge about many areas of the BSA and its programs. Packed with fun, ideas, and fellowship, the event is a great opportunity to meet and share ideas with other Scouters within the council and beyond. The event is a once a year chance to meet up with old friends, make new friends, and get energized about Scouting.

While University of Scouting is offered by local councils, Scouting U supports the training by bringing the Scouting University deans together to share ideas and to discuss current topics that are important to leaders.

“University of Scouting is an important part of continuous learning in the Boy Scouts of America,” shared Steve Yackel, Team Leader of Instructional Design, Scouting University. “These sessions allow leaders to find specific ideas and solutions to their most pressing questions on delivering the Scouting program.”

Focusing On What Matters

The council’s theme “It All Begins with … U,” focuses on YOU – whether you are Scouter, adult leader, parent, or council committee member. At University of Scouting participants can find a class, a merit badge, support from fellow Scouters, or an opportunity to reconnect with a friend – all of which will help attendees be a better Scout, a better leader, or enhance their Scouting programs.

With the hope that everyone can find something of interest, the council is offering an extensive list of classes. Participants will find old favorites and some new classes designed to engage their sense of adventure, satisfy a curiosity, and get them energized! This event truly is a celebration of everything Scouting.
