How This Downtown Spotlight Put the BSA on Display in Kansas City

The twinkling lights of Kansas City’s downtown skyline are a beautiful sight every night of the week – but for a special night this month, the cityscape lit up with an eye-catching message that showcased Scouting for thousands of people to see.

During the Heart of America Council‘s Distinguished Citizen Award Dinner on October 19, Scouting received a special tribute courtesy of the downtown Kansas City Marriott in which the BSA’s iconic fleur de lis towered over the city. The letters “BSA” also stretched across the building in red white and blue.

“We need to be telling the Scouting story every day and what better way to showcase our brand than by making it part of the Kansas City landscape,” shared Matt Armstrong, marketing director of the council. “The Heart of America Council is fortunate to have community partners like the Downtown Kansas City Marriott who help us put Scouting on display in unique and memorable ways.”

The Heart of America Council shared photos of the skyline on their Facebook page declaring, “once again that our town is a Scouting town.”

Your Council Can Feature Scouting, Too

This isn’t the first time Scouting has been presented in striking ways across the U.S.

The Sagamore Council displayed photos from the BSA’s Build an Adventure recruiting campaign across their building to help publicly tell the story of Scouting to their community. Additionally, Scouting Newsroom reported how Eagle Scouts from the Sagamore Council were displayed above a heavily trafficked highway on a billboard thanks to close ties with a local high school.

Councils can consider taking inspiration from the Heart of America and Sagamore Councils by partnering with local businesses or reaching out to area schools to highlight Scouting in visual ways. Whether it’s a light display, billboard, banner or Build an Adventure compilation, councils can always utilize photo and video resources in the BSA Brand Center for their marketing and recruiting needs.

Check out more photos of the downtown skyline below to get a birds eye view of the larger-than-life fleur de lis and BSA lights. And tell us in the comments below, how has your council featured Scouting in unique ways?
