Las Vegas Area Council Welcomes New Scout Executive

SE MarcheseCongratulations to Mike Marchese who will be serving as Scout Executive for the Las Vegas Area Council beginning July 1, 2016. In his new role, Mike will partner with board members, volunteers and staff to deliver quality Scouting programs and experiences to young people in Nevada, Arizona and California.

Mike began his career in the Oregon Trail Council, serving as district executive, district director, and assistant Scout executive. He was then selected as director of field service for the Grand Teton Council, then promoted to director of field service for the Grand Canyon Council in Phoenix, Arizona.  From there, he was selected as Scout executive of the Trapper Trails Council and also served as area director in the Western Region before his promotion to the Las Vegas Area Council.

Since 2012, Mike has been successfully serving as Area 2 Director in the Western Region, which includes 13 Councils in Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, western South Dakota, and parts of Nebraska. Traditional Membership grew from 275,566 to 283,002 from 2012-2015 during his watch.

Mike earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Oregon.
He is a First Class Scout and Order of the Arrow Vigil Honor member, and has served in volunteer roles such as Bear den leader, assistant district commissioner and is currently a chartered organization representative for his sons’ troop.

He and his wife, Cherylann, have two children who are also involved in Scouting: Venturer Katie, 15, and First Class Scout Christian, 13.
