Mom Brings Son to Scouting Open House, Here’s What She Found

The Indian Nations Council‘s recent open-invitation Scouting event welcomed tons of prospective Scouts outdoors to experience the fun that can only be found in Boy Scouts. And the hands-on, hardy fun of the day reined in the attention of mom blogger Kristy, creator of Mommy Hates Cooking.

But by the end of the day, Kristy’s son was thriving in the array of active adventures tailored to kids. From zip lines to BB gun practice, the activities captivating the youth there left Kristy’s son sad to leave for the day.

In turn, Kristy is singing the praises of the BSA in a recent blog post.

“They are the largest value-based youth development program in the nation,” she explains. “My husband and I were joking back and forth and both said that if we were lost in the middle of nowhere, we would want a Boy Scout there to help us.”

Kristy even felt the community of the Scouting program as the family visited with a good friend who is a Den leader. He was on site to teach kids how to launch stomp rockets.

All the fun aside, Kristy gained perspective on the mission at the heart of Scouting’s programs. She summarizes it perfectly in her recent post:

The real mission of Boy Scouts is to help young people make both moral and ethical decision that will better themselves and their community.  Isn’t that what you want your kids to learn?  I know that’s what I want my kids to learn!

The real mission of Boy Scouts is to help young people make both moral and ethical decision that will better themselves and their community.

Kristy’s words and exceptional experience with the Indian Nation’s Council have started a chain reaction of praise for the BSA. Readers commenting on Kristy’s post have shared how they are Scout leaders and big fans of the program.
