Scout to Become Its Own Rank in 2016

Scout to Become Its Own Rank in 2016

The Scout badge will soon be more than the initial patch given to new Boy Scout members. Beginning Jan. 1, 2016, Scout will become its own dedicated rank.

Bryan on Scouting recently shared an article about the upcoming change. The article explains that the requirements to earn the Scout rank may be more challenging than the requirements for the Scout badge have been previously. These requisites go beyond the current “Boy Scout joining requirements” by asking potential members to demonstrate their understanding of what it means to be a Scout; for example:

“1b. Explain what Scout spirit is. Describe some ways you have shown Scout spirit by practicing the Scout Oath, Scout Law, Scout motto, and Scout slogan.”

The rank will place new members on the right path towards Scouting achievement by ensuring that every member understands the values and standards that come with being a Boy Scout.

Read Bryan’s article to get the whole story on this exciting transition and check out the new Scout badge!
