Western Los Angeles County Council Welcomes New Scout Executive

Thornton Scout ExecutiveCongratulations to Matthew Thornton who will begin serving as Scout executive of the Western Los Angeles County Council in Van Nuys, California, effective December 1.

Matt began his Scouting career as a district executive at the Chief Okemos Council in Lansing, Michigan. He moved on to become field director and later assistant Scout executive with the Lake Huron Council in Auburn, Michigan. He was promoted to Scout executive of the Monmouth Council in Morganville, New Jersey, and on to Scout executive of Boston Minutemen Council in Boston, Massachusetts.

Matt also served as an area director in Central Region, serving in Area 2 and Area 7. Additionally, he served as the interim Scout executive in a number of councils, including Michigan Crossroads Council.

Matt and his wife, Leann, have six adult children. Matt enjoys reading, spending time with his family, and baseball. He and Leann are excited to start their new adventure in California.
