Advice from a Volunteer on How to Lead Better Den Meetings

It’s no secret that Scouting places a high value on preparation. “Be prepared.” Many of us have heard this Scouting motto and lived it for so long that it’s second nature.

But what about those who are new to Scouting? Parents and leaders just getting started, especially leading Cub Scouts, may not have had the years of experience and the constant reminder that preparation is a real key to Scouting success. Of course, even those who have been involved in Scouting for a long time can always use more info and a different perspective.

That’s why Scouting magazine recently talked to a seasoned Scouting volunteer to get his 5 tips on how to lead better den meetings.

He offers great advice on using the right Den Leader Guide, understanding the individual needs of the Scouts in the unit, searching for additional resources, attending roundtable, and getting a jump on planning.

Check out the whole article in the November/December print edition of Scouting magazine, or read the online version.

Also, there’s a wealth of knowledge in the Scouting community, and those who are new to Scouting can really benefit from your knowledge and wisdom, so feel free to share these articles with them and, please share your own great tips on how to lead better den meetings in the comments!
