5 Ways We’re Amping Up the 2017 Jamboree Experience
Why will the 2017 National Jamboree be the most epic Scouting extravaganza yet?
Because Russell Smart, program chairman for the 2017 Jamboree, is committed to creating the ultimate Scouting celebration. Smart and his team of jamboree experts are hard at work, using feedback from the 2013 Jamboree as a tool to sculpt the program until the 2017 event is a thing of beauty. That means this jamboree is going to be one for the books, thanks to your insights from 2013.
Earlier this week, Bryan on Scouting listed a plethora of features added to 2017 Jamboree plan and his blog post is sure to get you fired up for next summer. Just to give you an idea, here are five features we think you’ll love at the 2017 National Jamboree:
1. Hop on a Shuttle
Transportation shuttles will be available for jamboree participants and staff. One Scout-mobile will zip campers to and from The Barrels (shooting), The Bows (archery) and a rest and relaxation area; and a second will serve The Big Zip landing, The Rocks (climbing), The Ropes (challenge courses), and Low Gear (mountain biking).
2. Know Your Next Wait Time
Our top-notch jamboree team is working on a system to keep everyone in the loop on estimated wait times. The goal is to give you the info you need to plan for maximum fun.
If you’re attending the Summit’s 2016 summer program, you’ll get to be among the first to test drive the new system.
3. Take Service Projects on the Road
The Messengers of Peace Day of Service during the 2013 Jamboree set the stage for an incredible opportunity to spread Scouting values even farther next summer.
In 2017, preselected units will have the option to perform their Jamboree service project on the road, travelling to or from the Summit Bechtel Reserve (so long as travel plans permit).
4. See Grand Performances at Perfect Times
Each base camp will kick off the 2017 Jamboree with an opening event on the first evening of camp. This way, you can get settled into your tent and meet the neighbors.
Don’t worry—you’ll still get to experience shows at the magnificent AT&T Summit Stadium! Bryan on Scouting has the scoop on the performance plan.
5. Jump Into STEM at the New Quest Area
The 2013 Jamboree’s Technology Quest was a hoppin’ hangout, but the new Quest area will be even bigger and better, thanks to a move and expansion. 2017’s Quest area can be found neighboring The Pools next summer. Make sure to stop in and check out the added activities.
