Enhancements Coming to Youth Protection Incident Reporting

A Youth Protection/Membership Incident Information Report form and supplemental page of reporting tips is now in production. A pad of the new reporting form, supplement pages, and tips will be forwarded to all professional staff. The estimated time for delivery to your council is early summer.

The supplemental Youth Protection/Membership packet is intended for inclusion in the Incident Reporting Kit (the easy-to-use burnt orange folder). We recommend all professionals keep copies at their desks and in their program backpacks and vehicle trunks—anywhere readily accessible.

Designed for documentation, the forms also will assist in the gathering of pertinent information such as the “who,” “what,” “when,” “where,” and other relevant details about a reported incident and will aid in prompt procedural follow-up. There are no changes to the Health and Safety Incident Form or the information currently in the Incident Reporting Kit; these Youth Protection/Membership forms are supplements to the Incident Reporting Kit.

While Scout executives are familiar with the online incident reporting process and the current incident information reports contained in the Incident Reporting Kit, we feel this additional tool will help professionals when collecting information relative to youth protection/membership matters. Accurate and timely reporting of incidents allows Scout executives/councils to respond to incidents in an appropriate manner. Additionally, there is tremendous value in identifying incident trends and preventing the recurrence of similar incidents.

If there are any questions about incident reporting, please contact the Membership Standards/Youth Protection team at youth.protection@scouting.org. Questions regarding the Incident Reporting Kit itself can be directed to the Health and Safety team at health.safety@scouting.org.
