Know an Eagle Scout Who Deserves a College Scholarship?

As a flock of Eagle Scouts prepare to take flight at universities all over the world, now is the time to start thinking about scholarship opportunities. Be sure the National Eagle Scout Association’s academic and merit-based scholarships are on your Eagle’s application list.

Due to the overwhelming number of applications NESA received last year, the scholarship committee voted to move the NESA scholarship window up two months. The new deadline for submissions is October 31. Mark the date on your calendar now to keep the Eagle Scouts you know accountable in striving for these outstanding awards. Remember, an Eagle Scout can apply for the merit scholarships until (and including) his junior year in college.

Another change for this year: NESA scholarships are payable to Scouts attending vocational trade schools and approved programs. That means, unlike years past, not just Eagles headed to 4-year universities are eligible to earn NESA scholarships. These scholarships, however, are not available to students attending any of the U.S. military academies, because, at these academies, expenses covered by NESA scholarships are already paid by the U.S. government.

All applicants must be members of NESA but can secure their membership while simultaneously applying for the NESA scholarships. Find the NESA membership application here.

Young men can fill out a scholarship application even if they haven’t passed their Eagle Scout board of review yet but plan to by Oct. 31. NESA staffers will manually verify Eagle Scout/NESA membership status before selecting recipients.

All NESA scholarship applications must be submitted online. Learn more about the scholarships by checking out these FAQs on the NESA website.
