New ‘Paddle Ready’ App Available for Paddlers

We’re thrilled to announce the release of Paddle Ready—a free, user-friendly iPhone/Android mobile app designed just for paddlers. This resource for a safer aquatics program has been provided by one of our partners—American Canoe Association.
The ACA has created Paddle Ready to empower individuals to take responsibility for their safety on the water, build their paddling knowledge, and have more fun. The app is the newest addition to the ACA’s ongoing campaign to develop, produce, and disseminate a wide range of safety and instruction programs to serve the millions of Americans who participate in paddlesports annually.

Paddle Ready allows you to:
- Complete a float plan and email it to your friends.
- Find an ACA instructor or course near you.
- Get real-time environmental coverage plus weather conditions for various paddling environments, and save your favorite paddling routes for quick reference.
- Search for boating organizations and offices by state.
- Have paddle safety checklists for various paddling environments at your fingertips.
- Use the safety and rescue how-to videos to keep your knowledge current.
Canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards were involved in nearly 20 percent of all boating-related deaths last year. When the ACA began developing the Paddle Ready app in the summer of 2013, thanks to a grant from the U.S. Coast Guard, we had one goal in mind: to create a useful tool for paddlers that will also present them with important safety information in a fun and engaging way.
In short, we want this app to spread the message that the best kind of adventure happens when you are prepared for the worst. We want Paddle Ready to reach paddlers everywhere. We want it to save lives.
