Opportunities to Serve Multicultural Markets

Imagine the lives we can change and the leaders we can develop by going the extra mile to bring Scouting to all American cultures. With your assistance, we can make this happen!

Scouting continues to develop programs to meet the changing needs of American society and its youth. In order to better serve our country, Scouting strives to reach youth in the growing multicultural populations of America.

How the BSA Is Taking Action

Scouting’s mission is to reach everyone. However, many communities have no point of reference of the positive impact Scouting can have on their children and the community as a whole. This creates an unprecedented opportunity to take action and highlight the goals of Scouting to these communities.

To accomplish this, the BSA is focusing on three areas:

  • Marketing – Parents are key when reaching diversified populations. Our plan is to demonstrate how Scouting is an educational program that teaches leadership skills, survival skills, ethical values and character, caring skills, citizenship and responsibility.
  • Mentoring –  Scouting provides the opportunity for youth to meet with influential adult leaders who will make a lasting impression on their lives.
  • Manpower and resources – We need to recruit staff and adult volunteers who reflect the diverse cultures we wish to serve. It’s also important to arm leaders with resources (literature, training materials, and recruiting resources) in multiple languages that fit other customs and cultures.

What You Can Do Now

Building credibility and value in these markets is a long-term commitment and requires continuous support. This is where the BSA needs your help.

You can help bridge the cultural gap and change lives in diverse communities in America through Scouting by making a gift at https://aplacetogive.scouting.org/magento/index.php/multicultural-markets.html.
