How Scouting Saved This Eagle’s Life

How Scouting Saved This Eagle’s Life

Unlike some fleeting childhood hobbies or interests, Boy Scouts of America invites youth to a lifetime of unforgettable character-building experiences that transform them into the leaders of the future. Opening young people to a world of discovery, fun and friendship, Scouting introduces its members to relationships they can count on, forging bonds as strong as family.

Addressing donors, volunteers and leaders at the Golden Eagle Luncheon, Arnold A., an Eagle Scout from the Atlanta Area Council, shares how Scouting not only became his family – it saved his life.

The Eagle tells the story of how his Scoutmaster became a father figure and provided a support system unlike any other in his life. Facing challenges like financial struggles and bullies, Arnold shares how he overcame adversity and became the man he is today.

Arnold explains what the Eagle Scout rank has meant to him and how his accomplishments in Scouting have led him to success. Now, a student at Benedict College, the Eagle concludes his story by saying that Scouts may not realize it at the time, but what they do is bigger than they think; after all, Scouting saved his life.

Hear Arnold’s moving testimony of how Scouting shaped him into the leader he is today by watching his complete speech in the video below. Forewarning, you might need a box of tissues.
