Did you know Venturers are unofficially known as Greenshirts? According to Bryan on Scouting, the nickname stems from the distinctive color of Venturing uniform shirts.
Greenshirts have a penchant for having expertise in a variety of Scouting topics like High-Adventure, sports, arts, hobbies, religion, and so much more. These Greenshirts are at least 14-years-old, but not yet 21, and they’re comprised of a unique group of guys and girls who are interested in experiencing Scouting beyond the traditional program.
These facts might be news to you if you haven’t heard much about Venturing in your local area, but thanks to some majorly committed Venturing youth, adult advisors and BSA professionals, Venturing is reaching more communities than ever before.
The Venturing Leadership Award recognizes such committed youth and adults who serve Venturing in ways that recruit and retain young men and women. Presented at the council, area, regional and national levels, the VLA honors Greenshirts who have made exceptional contributions to Venturing and who exemplify the Scout Oath and Scout Law.
This year the recipients of the 2016 Venturing Leadership Award included: Shannon Mulligan, Pratik Vaidya, Christina Vogt, Bob Scott and Wendy Kurten.
