There’s a New High-Adventure Experience Coming in Summer 2017!

There’s a New High-Adventure Experience Coming in Summer 2017!

Scouts from across the country will join together at the tropical Scouting paradise of BSA’s Florida National High-Adventure Sea Base for an awesome, science-based program — the Marine STEM Adventure.

From July 9 to August 5, 2017, Scouts 13 years and older (and graduated from the 8th grade) will participate in the unique, week-long program, experiencing hands-on learning at its finest.

This one-of-a-kind opportunity was developed around citizen science— the collaborative effort of professional scientists and the general public for the benefit of research. One of the most exciting parts of the program is that participants will be contributing to professional ongoing research, all while experiencing aquatic adventures.

Scouts will discover the underwater wilderness through lessons in data collection, coral conservation, and even shark education, all while taking part in fun activities like ocean kayaking, underwater robotics, and fishing. For example, Scouts will collect data to share with Mote Marine Laboratories, NOAA, Reef Environmental Education Foundation, and other professional research agencies—all while snorkeling the only barrier coral reef in North America!

Reservations are limited and are open to any unit registered with the Boy Scouts of America. Head to the Florida Sea Base’s reservation page to check the latest availability.
