Watching Her Eagles soar

Watching Her Eagles soar

I know there are many proud parents out there who have watched one or more of their sons achieve Scouting’s highest rank – the Eagle Scout Award – but I just had to share this brief story sent to me about a proud Mom in Carmel, CA.

Michelle Carroll has seen all three of her sons – 19-year-old Sean, 17-year-old Robert and 14-year-old Michael – earn their Eagle. Her sons are members of Troop 132 in Carmel, part of the Monterey Bay Area Council.

This is a terrific achievement in itself, but I wanted to share some of the observations Michelle shared with a reporter with the Current in Carmel about how she has seen her sons grow up along the path to Eagle:

“Any opportunity that comes out they’re willing to say, yeah, I’m going to try and do that. It’s just being able to be open to do those things and I think through Scouting that’s helped them a lot.”

“The life skills my boys have learned through Scouts put my mind at ease,” she added. They will be prepared for whatever comes their way.”

What a wonderful testimonial about how Scouting has helped make her three sons Prepared. For Life!

I congratulate Sean, Robert and Michael for achieving Scouting’s highest honor, and would also like to tip my hat to Carmel’s Troop 132 and the Silicon Valley Monterey Bay Council for their great work in supporting these fine young men and others in their area.

It’s always inspiring to see how much the young people we serve learn along the Scouting trail to help them grow into great citizens and become fine leaders in their communities. These are skills that will serve them well into their adult years as they strive to serve others.

What changes have you observed in the young people you mentor as they grow under your supervision?  What are some of the common changes you see as they grow and assume new responsibilities?  Please share your experiences below.

Thanks!

Wayne
